Data
Ioannis Giannakopoulos, Saranda Ekklisies [Turkish Kırklareli] (Thessaloniki 1994) is a book about the recent history of a town situated at the North of the East Thracian plain, in European Turkey, c. 70 kilometers east of Adrianople / Edirne. Kırklareli had an important Greek Orthodox community until the Exodus of 1922 which is the subject of Giannakopoulos’s research; mainly during the Late Ottoman period, 1800-1922, and the first years of the Refugee period. The writer is not a historian but a devoted patriot who studied archives and other sources, collected information and took photographs of many relics, went to his motherland for field work and published an honest book.
