Description
Istanbul, the historical center. Aerial photograph taken in 1986. Almost all the land enclosed by the Archaic wall or walls 'of Byzas' can be seen up to the promontory called Bosphorios Akra (or Punta, the Topkapı Sarayı promontory) jutting into the Bosphoros. The south side of Hagia Sophia, the church of the Holy Wisdom of God photographed from above the Augustaion. To its north are the enclosed areas of the Topkapı Sarayı with the church of Hagia Eirene in the foreground. The Topkapı Sarayı occupies the low hill where the Megarian acropolis was built and the sanctuary of Apollo Pythios.
