Title
The Phrontisterion (Greek High School) of Trebizond, now the 'Trabzon Anadolu Lisesi' (in 1987)
Description
Trebizond photo 01. The 'Trabzon Anadolu Lisesi', with its 18 airy classrooms and spacious indoor gym facilities of 1901, is still the largest educational institution in North and Eastern Turkey. Ionic pilasters, capitals and pediments remind more recent pupils that the high school was built by members of the populous and prosperous Greek community at the beginning of the 20th c., two decades before the `Exodus' of 1922-1924.
