Claudius Ptolemy, Geographia (c. AD 160), transcribed by Ioannes Skoutariotes (Florence 1454). The map depicts the eastern part of the Haimos Peninsula (later known as the Balkan Peninsula): from the North Aegean (the islands of Thasos and the Thracian Sporades) and the Propontis / Sea of Marmara to the Danube Delta (the six Provinces of the Roman Dioecesis Thraciae), and further North: areas of todays’ Romania, Moldova and the Ukraine.
