The marble grave of Leonidas Strikides in the garden of St Paraskevi Büyükdere (Upper Bosporus)

St Paraskevi Büyükdere photo 44. This is one of the marble graves at the S-SW side of the garden of the ecclesiastical complex. The long inscription (in capital letters) starts with the name of the deceased “Leonidas I. Strikides” who was born in Büyükdere in 1826 and died in Cairo, Egypt, in 1864 (?), the third number is not clear: it could be a 7 or even a 9. The Greek text «Λεωνίδας Ι. Στρικίδης || Γεννηθείς εν Βουγιούκδερε 1826 Αποβιώσας εν Καΐρω 18 .. ». The inscription continues with a long epigram.
