Basil Atsalos, et al, Treasures of Mount Athos. Catalogue of the exhibition at the Museum of Byzantine Culture, Thessalonike 1997 (in Greek).
Τhessalonica was the cultural capital of Europe for the year 1997; the main event organized in the city was a major exhibition with icons, relics, and manuscripts of Mount Athos' monasteries; many of them were exhibited for the first time. This huge volume is the catalogue of the exhibition that functions as a large wall painting depicting all the faces of history and the expressions of daily life in the tiny democracy of the monks. Written by the best of the best on Byzantium, it presents a selection of the cultural treasures of all 20 monasteries and the many ‘sketes’ and priories of Athos. A large part of the book covers the Byzantine painting (monumental and portable icons).
Total pages XVI+696 (22.5 x 30 cm). The book was translated in English.
