A topographical record of the monuments of the entire section of Istanbul known as Pera / Beyoğlu, from Galata to Taxim Square: the “European” side of the Ottoman capital. Detailed record of neighborhoods and buildings through visual materials (etchings, engravings, maps, rare photographs, post cards, old advertisements, logos etc.), as well as a photographic record of the same buildings in 2000, with drawings, plans etc. by the author.

The recent photographic record was made under the direction of the author by Yiannis Yiannelos and Alexis Rodopoulos. The photographs of the interiors, especially of the old embassies and current consulates, as well as the publication of the portable icons which are no longer in their original contexts, make this visual recording of Pera all the more precious.

The archival materials come from 17 sources (private, institutions, libraries, museums etc.), and from the author’s rich collection. The book should be considered a primary source in its own right on account of the illustrative material. Bibliography, pp 474-476. Large format, total pages, 476.
