Eustathios of Thessalonike, "Composition by Eustathios of Thessalonike on what we hope to be the last Fall of Thessalonike" (in Greek). This work by Eustathios, Metropolitan of Thessalonike from c.1178 to 1195, treats the capture of his city by the Normans of Sicily in 1185, the looting and humiliation of its inhabitants which ensued, the hunger and poverty, and the enslavement suffered by a part of the population, including the author himself. The work is presented in modern Greek translation in the Chronicles of the Falls of Thessalonike, a collection of four Byzantine texts with a Prologue (pp 9-10), extensive Introduction (pp 11-65) and Notes by Paolo Odorico. Biographical details about Eustathios and, especially, his behavior as Metropolitan of Thessalonike in relation to both his flock and political authorities; critical analysis of his Chronicle of the city’s capture, and select bibliography, pp 31-43. See Θεσσαλονίκη, Χρονικά Αλώσεων (2010). In modern Greek.
