Surlarim öte yani Zeytinburnu / Monuments of Zeytinburnu (in Turkish) is a collaborative volume published by the Municipality of Zeytinburnu that investigates the historical development of this area lying just outside the Byzantine Land Walls of Istanbul.
Beginning in the Byzantine period, the 14 contributors focus on 30 subjects, including the Hagiasma and Monastery of the Life-containing Source (Balıklı) pp. 24-39, the industrial zone of Kazlıçeşme and its tanneries pp. 58-89, the mosques, Dervish tekkes and Mevlevi lodges pp. 92-121 and 132-147, fountains and the more elaborate drinking water facilities know as “sebil” pp. 126-133, the large historic hospitals in the area (the Armenian Hospital of Balıklı, the Greek Orthodox Hospital of Balıklı, the Military Hospital and others) pp. 150-175, as well as more recent topics relating to demographics, urban development and the physical environment.
