The Argonautica of Apollonios / Apollonius, written in the 3rd century BC, is the only full remaining account of Jason’s voyage in quest of the Golden Fleece (in Colchis, modern Georgia); an incredible adventure of the Late Bronze Age – Early Iron Age. The legendary voyage of the ship called Argo from the Aegean to the Black Sea through the Dardanelles, the Propontis / Sea of Marmara and the Bosporus / Bosphoros. In this particularly famous account, the Alexandrian author Apollonios mixes older traditions with newer information, drawing on texts composed down to the Hellenistic period.
