Μαύρη Βίβλος Διωγμών και Μαρτυρίων του εν Τουρκία Ελληνισμού (1914-1918) (Οικουμενικό Πατρειαρχείο, εκ του Πατριαρχικού Τυπογραφείου, Κωνσταντινούπολη 1919)
The Black Book (published by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1919) is the detailed rapport of the pogrom held by the Ottoman state and the nationalistic groups against the Greek Orthodox populations of the Empire during the period 1913-1918. Deportations, atrocities, murders of priests and other leading members of the Greek communities started in Eastern Thrace (modern European Turkey) as soon as the Balkan Wars came to an end in 1913 and they expanded to Asia Minor (Anatolia) and Pontos (the Black Sea region) during the First World War.
At the same time, thanks to this tragic rapport the reader has in front of him the whole ‘map’ of the Christian Orthodox world down to the smallest village in this period, i.e. a few years before its dissolution after the Catastrophe of 1922.
