Title
Archaic votive stele from the Black Sea coast of Eastern Thrace: a seated goddess
Description
This is a rare archaic votive stele showing a seated goddess within a ‘naiskos’ (a temple-like structure with pediment), mid-6th c. BC. It is rare due to its provenance: from Salmydessos-Medeia (Turk. Mide or Midye, renamed Kıyıköy in the late 1980s) on the Black Sea coast of Eastern Thrace (European Turkey), a place from which we have very little archaeological material from the Early Greek presence in this isolated area.
