Data
Savvas Lakidis, History of the Prefectures of Bizye and Medeia [in the Black Sea regions of Eastern Thrace] from the Ancient Times until our Days (Constantinople 1899).A most precious book. Note that: Medeia (Gr. Μήδεια, Turk. Midye or Mide), ancient Salmydessos (modern Kıyıköy, European Turkey), retained its name until the early 1980s, and most maps still show the village under this name. Kıyıköy means ‘seaside village’ (it was probably given this name to help the transformation of this old outport of Bizye / Βιζύη (Turk. Vize) into a seaside resort since it is only about 110 km. from Istanbul.
