Byzantine History 1: 324-610  by A. Christophilopoulou is a handbook of Byzantine History covering the early Byzantine period from the period of the sole reign of Constantine the Great (324) to Heraclius’s ascent to the throne (610).

The extensive Introduction (pp 1-96) is an overview of sources and the methodological problems arising from their use. There are chapters about place names and personal names, about ancillary studies to History such as Linguistics, Palaeography, Codicology, Historical Geography and other fields) and about chronologies (indictions etc.). These chapters are followed by others containing historical narrative in which the author includes the main sources for each historical unit. Bibliographical references are in the notes.
